Cuban Underground Hip Hop: Black Thoughts, Black Revolution, Black Modernity by Tanya Saunders

  • Sarah Soanirina Ohmer CUNY Lehman College

Abstract

Cuban Underground Hip Hop (CUHH) goes from how to study Cuba in U.S. Academia, the challenges that can come up first as an undergraduate, then a graduate student, to strategies on how to navigate the politics after one makes a choice to study, as a black, queer, American in the regional sense, scholar. This is a work of black, queer, American in the regional sense of the word, a hemispheric black feminist and queer of color hip-hop studies work. Not a book.
